Prayers and Meditations
Bahá’u’lláh
Published in 1938, this volume contains 184 prayers and meditations selected and translated by Shoghi Effendi from Bahá’u’lláh’s devotional writings, revealed in Arabic and Persian across His successive exiles from Baghdad to ‘Akká (1853–1892). Shoghi Effendi described it as a companion volume to Gleanings (1935), comparable in richness and complementary in material. He wrote that ‘the perusal of such a precious volume will help to deepen, more than any other publication, the spirit of devotion and faith in the friends, and thus charge them with all the spiritual power they require for the accomplishment of their tremendous duties towards the Cause.’ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá had earlier urged believers: ‘Study the Holy Utterances of Bahá’u’lláh; Prayer and Meditation, take much time for these two.’
